Possible Justice League Movie Problem

So here's the problem I have with DC Comics' not even started Justice League film...

Member Characteristic Review

Superman

Obviously with Man of Steel just being released, a sequel already planned, and Justice League to follow that, it only makes since that Henry Cavill will be reprising the role of Superman, and this is where things go wrong. This Superman is not the usual goody-two-shoe boyscout we all grew up with in the comics, no this version is darker, willing to kill, and not too worried about collateral damage.

Green Arrow

It makes sense to have Green Arrow appear in a Justice League film, especially when you know the character has been well received on the small screen with the hit series Arrow, and Stephen Amell (the guy currently under the green hood) has already said he wants in. Personally would love to see this Green Arrow move from small screen to big, except that this archer is darker than his usual self and has no problem killing even when it could have been avoided.

Batman

Batman has always been a darker character than the other Justice League members, though he doesn't kill unnecessarily, and would rather work alone than with a team.

Currently we don't have a Batman actor since Christian Bale said he's through playing the Caped Crusader, but we also don't have a Flash, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, or Cyborg, all of whom could be included in a Justice League film as well. But if you look at the three ready to appear characters, you can easily see that there isn't really a balance amongst them, they're really just the same character in a different outfit, and that's a problem.

Unfortunately that either means they have to forgo adding Green Arrow (or at least Amell's Arrow), or rewrite a character, which at this point would be be a very dangerous maneuver in of its self.

So the question now is how does DC resolve this problem, due they even see this as a problem? Or do we just go ahead and create darker versions of Flash, Wonder Woman, and the rest of the League and just go the route already started?

Where the Batman Franchise Goes After TDKR

First let's assume that Batman: The Dark Knight Rises ends with Bane breaking Batman's back (probably a long shot, but here's hoping).

Now since both Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan have made it clear that this is their last Batman film, the franchise can clearly head in a new direction without any real hang ups.

The best way to do such is to follow the storyline of the Batman comics during the 90's, where after Bane's savage beating of Batman, Wayne leaves the country to receive rehabilitation for his back, but before leaving he turns over the protection of Gotham to Jean-Paul Valley (Azrael) who will fill in as Batman.

This would be ideal because now you can have a few movies without a Bruce Wayne, see a much darker Batman (because let's face it, Jean-Paul has issues), and potentially have a Batman vs Batman beat down in the last film of this series when Wayne returns home to take his rightful spot as Batman.

Plus, and this is huge, the Jean-Paul suit was totally freaking awesome.

Of course this is all just wishful thinking, but come on, it sounds like a good idea. No? Well then how would you continue on the Batman franchise?

P.S. We could just screw it all and fast forward to a Batman Beyond movie, now that would be kick-@$$.

From Newsies To Batman

With the lead roles of Bruce Wayne in Batman, John Connor in Terminator Salvation, his arrest for domestic violence and the recording of his berating of a crew member during filming of Salvation, Christian Bale has made quite a name for himself.

But did you know that Christian Bale's big break in film came in a Disney musical called Newsies?

That's right Christian was Jack "Cowboy" Kelly, an orphan boy that danced and sang as he delivered his newspapers. Oh and he wore a handkerchief around his neck, adorable right?

Seeing Christian in Newsies makes it easier to understand why he makes sure to get the tough guy persona now.

Of course this post would not be complete without actually seeing and hearing Christian's performance from Newsies.

It's In The Name

With the fourth installment of the Terminator franchise, Salvation, yet to hit theaters (May 22, 2009) you wouldn't think Sony and Warner Brothers would already be discussing plans for a fifth, let alone sixth movie, but you'd be wrong.

In fact these entertainment giants have already green lighted the fifth film and even signed Christian Bale (John Connor) for all three films.

There's just one really big problem with a new set of films, and that is a little show currently running on FOX called The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Rumor has it that Salvation picks up after the events of the third film, Rise Of The Machines, but this ends up conflicting with The Sarah Connor Chronicles which takes place prior to Rise Of The Machines. See everything done in the past ultimately changes the future, so this little TV show, is going to complicate matters more than some may realize.

Another problem that will arise, is that when you go to the movies to see a Terminator flick, you expect to see the original terminator himself Arnold Schwarzenegger. There's a smaller budget when producing a TV series so people understand that the big name actor will end up being a no show.

Something else to consider for Christian Bale is that he may have to give up the role of Batman due to the filming schedules. Though after that last performance, that would be okay too.

There is always the possibility that these new movies will be a huge success, but we wouldn't want to bet our money on that. -GJ
