Free Comic Book Day Heroclix Piece

For most people, Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) is all about the comics, but for me it's all about the FCBD Heroclix piece.

Now sadly I don't know much about the game, nor have I had the opportunity to play other than a store demo here and there, but what I do know is that I love this game. Do you know of another game that allows you to build teams by mixing characters from the DC, Marvel, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and Halo universes? Yeah me neither.

Plus you also have to admit that this year's Iron Man piece is pretty kick butt.

FCBD Score

Got up early and headed to our local comic book store, Coliseum of Comics, to celebrate Free Comic Book Day (FCBD).

For those that don't know about FCBD, it occurs the first Saturday in May at participating comic book stores, and it's a chance to get some comics absolutely FREE.

For the event each of the different publishers create special preview issues or shortened issues, often containing multiple stories, letting fans know what all they have to offer.

Over at Coliseum of Comics, we had the opportunity to score 5 of the free comics; and here is what we came away with...

Also scored another free comic because Coliseum of Comics is running a promotion for those that bring in their Avengers movie ticket they can either get a copy of Thor #600 or The New Avengers #27. Since we already have a copy of Thor #600, we took The New Avengers #27 with the Coliseum of Comics variant cover.

While waiting for friends to show up, we also took the opportunity to sit in on a Heroclix game demo. It was a quick demo, just a two piece game, but can easily say this game would be so addictive if we had money. Would love to write or create battle reports for this game too, so anyone that knows a very cheap way for us to get involved in the game, hit us up in the comments.

In case you're curious I won playing as War Machine, while the store employee (sorry can't remember his name) played as Green Lantern. That's right, Marvel vs DC matchups are possible; in fact Heroclix makes figures for Marvel, DC, Watchmen, Halo, plus many more, and all can be mixed and matched to play your game.

Participating in the demo also earned me a free promotional piece; it was hard to turn down the War Machine piece, but when I heard him say Psylocke I was sold.

All in all Free Comic Book Day was a fantastic day and we'd like to thank Coliseum of Comics for making it even better.

We'd love to hear how your FCBD was; what did your local comic book store do that was special for you? Which comics did you gobble up?

MEGACON 2011

Once a year the Sci-Fi, Anime, RPG, and Comic Book fans of Florida gather in Orlando to attend the annual Megacon Convention

The event runs for three days (Fri, Sat, Sun) and has appearances from both media and comic book artists. This year's main stars being William Shatner (Capt. Kirk; Star Trek) and the man himself Stan Lee (Comic Book Icon; creator of Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, X-Men).

There are photo opps, panels, an artist galley, a costume contest, anime events, gaming corner, lego displays, and of course the booths with everything imaginable for sale.

Unfortunately, we didn't get very many photos of our trip, apparently someone (Chris!) left the camera on and let the battery die and didn't recharge it, so all we got was five pics (one is kinda on the blurry side) but here they are folks...

Sadly those pics of the droids were only in the first ten feet of the display, we could have gotten another twenty pics, but on that third pic, the camera went "Goodbye"

Our stroll through the artist galley left us wondering how much wall space we can clear so we can start buying everything we see (and where are that money would come from to purchase).

But here are links to some of our favorites that we picked up cards for...
If you're looking for a new blog to read well we've found a good one while at Megacon as well...The Ghost Pig
All in all, we had a great time. Saw some awesome costumes, great artwork, glimpses of some of our favorite artists and media guests, and even got involved in some great debates.

If you attended Megacon and would like to share your experiences or share your pictures, then please feel free to leave us a comment, we'd love to hear from you.

Hope to see you all there next year (Feb. 17-19, 2012)

Sticking with our recent Dungeons and Dragons theme, here is a video of Stephen Lynch singing his D&D song.
