Attack On Titan - Live Action Film

Although many places rumor it to be heading to screen on Sept. 07, 2018, this year's big anime title Attack On Titan is actually slated to be released in Japan sometime in 2014; those of us in the states may not see it until 2018 though.

Quick Synopsis

Man has been forced to live in cities that are surrounded by giant walls to keep out creatures called Titans, giant humanoids who like to devour humans for no apparent reason. After 100 years of living in peace within the walls, a colossal Titan appears and breaks down a portion of the outermost wall allowing access to the Titans to invade the human cities.

Now man has to learn how to defeat the Titans and take back their lands, before the Titans break through the final wall and devour every last human.

Battle Los Angeles (Movie Review)

Okay, okay, I know this movie has been out since 3/11/11, but I've been busy (and kinda broke), so yes I'm just now getting around to seeing and reviewing Battle Los Angeles.

As far as a movie goes, Battle Los Angeles wasn't all that bad. No it's probably not going to win any awards, but for one seeking to lose their self for a little while, 116 minutes to be exact, then this film does a good job.

Synopsis: Sgt. Nantz (Aaron Eckhart) has just signed his retirement papers, but before he can walk away the plant Earth is invaded by an unknown alien race. Now Sgt. Nantz is sent into action with a new squad; their mission - to help in the defense of the city of Los Angeles.

The best way to describe this film is think Independence Day meets Saving Private Ryan. Just take away the humor, and instead of searching for one guy, Nantz and his squad are searching for a number of survivors held up in a police station.

Battle Los Angeles is packed full of great action, interesting CGI aliens, and a decent storyline. Some parts are predictable, and the end could have been better, but from start to finish this was a decent movie.

Grade: B

Never been a big fan of Ghost Rider, and after the first film and seeing this trailer, quite possibly going to go ahead and skip this one altogether.

Got Riddick

Read on SciFiWire.com that Vin Diesel will be portraying Richard Riddick for a third live action movie; Vin Diesel also voiced Riddick for the animated Dark Fury movie.

Other then a few production notes, nothing more is known about the upcoming film. It is mentioned that this film will also lean towards themes used in Pitch Black, rather then Chronicles.


Actually liked the Chronicles film better; felt there was a better view of what was going on in the Universe.

Pitch Black was a good film, but had more of a Horror theme to it then preferred for our Sci-Fi taste. This however is also a big reason why many enjoyed Pitch Black over Chronicles.

From Newsies To Batman

With the lead roles of Bruce Wayne in Batman, John Connor in Terminator Salvation, his arrest for domestic violence and the recording of his berating of a crew member during filming of Salvation, Christian Bale has made quite a name for himself.


But did you know that Christian Bale's big break in film came in a Disney musical called Newsies?

That's right Christian was Jack "Cowboy" Kelly, an orphan boy that danced and sang as he delivered his newspapers. Oh and he wore a handkerchief around his neck, adorable right?


Seeing Christian in Newsies makes it easier to understand why he makes sure to get the tough guy persona now.

Of course this post would not be complete without actually seeing and hearing Christian's performance from Newsies.

Movie Trailer - District 9

Live Action Akira Is No Go

Akira has joined a growing list of manga/anime that will not be adapted to live action.

For many this is actually great news; the manga was a great success, and there were fears that this would just turn into another Hollywood flop. -GJ

Interesting Movie Fact #005

If you call yourself a Star Wars fan, and we know there are thousands of you, then you have seen every film about a hundred times. You watch these films so many times because you've seen what's going on in the foreground, but now it's time to check out what's happening in the background.

For Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, many people have noticed something interesting about the Rebel Troopers involved in the battle aboard the Blockade runner during the opening sequence.


We all know that most of those brave troopers in the image above will not survive the upcoming onslaught from the Imperial Stormtroopers.


However, even though they have met their fates, these same Rebel Troopers can be seen walking amongst the living on Yavin IV in the Rebel Alliance's base.

Of course we all figured that George Lucas reused Stormtroopers, and maybe even used actors to portray both Rebel and Imperial troops.

Secondary movie fact; Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett), also appeared in The Empire Strikes Back as an Imperial officer on Bespin. -GJ

Remake, Remake...STOP Already!

Okay Hollywood, it's time that you start earning your money. No more going out and remaking films for profit. Come up with an original idea of your own, stop remaking what others have done.

We will allow for sequels, and we mean sequels, NO MORE PREQUELS!!!

Just so you know this article was sparked because it has been announced that there are plans for a "TOTAL RECALL" remake.


First of all the movie isn't that old, it had a great director in Paul Verhoeven, and some of the top actors at that time (Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sharon Stone, Michael Ironside).

We love the line "Get Your @$$ To Mars" but we don't love it enough to have it ruined in a remake.

If we could prevent Hollywood from making this remake, along with the hundreds of others that are planned, we would. - GJ

Engine Repaired

So last week somebody on the staff managed to pick up a virus and pass it on to everyone else. Damage was kept to a minimum, we think. However, if anyone comes across any missing images or videos please let us know so we can correct it.

Bad news is we lost articles we were working on because stupid us, we hadn't wrote them on blogger.com but in Microsoft Word instead. So give us sometime and we'll get you some new content.

Economy May Hurt Sci-Fi Entertainment

Okay so let's cut the scope of this article down to futuristic space operas/dramas are in trouble. (Science Fiction as a whole will be fine, mostly because of the sub-genres Horror and Fantasy.)

We all know it is very expensive to produce a TV show; sets have to be built, writers and actors to be paid, and advertising to be performed to draw a crowd. Unfortunately it costs a lot more to do a Science Fiction show based in outer space or in the future, because besides the normal sets (which are more extensive in themselves), a lot of computer graphics also come into play and that's where a lot of money ends up being spent.

Even before the economy down slide studios were cutting these shows because of cost. Some prime examples are Dark Angel, Space Above And Beyond, Futurama, and our favorite show all time FIREFLY.


Now unfortunately even shows that have made it two, three, even five years are looking at an end. Battlestar Galactica is in its final season, there are currently no new Star Trek TV series, and though FOX hasn't admitted it just yet, we are probably seeing the final season of The Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

The only gleam of hope at the moment for this brand of entertainment is the upcoming Stargate Universe series that will be airing on the SciFi Channel.

The effects of the economy are not only affecting the small screen, but the silver screen as well. As studios look into what should be cut back it's almost a guarantee that space operas are to be dropped, just for the simple fact that they do not produce the same results stupid fart joke movies do.

The much anticipated Halo movie has already become one such casualty in this time of economic crisis, and thus lays the foundation of many other movies to be shelved.


But we can always hope for a huge economic surge towards the better, one that will allow studios to go ahead with plans to make those shelved movies, someday we may yet get our Halo, along with others like Gears of War, Robotech, or any other space opera our minds can imagine.

Foundation - The Movie

If you call yourself a fan of science fiction than Isaac Asimov's book "FOUNDATION" is a must read. Although if you're lazy and rather watch a movie based on a book then you just have to wait a couple more years.

Sony has announced that they have bought the rights to produce the movie and will turn the reigns over to director Roland Emmerich (2012).


Foundation, an excellent book, is probably one that shouldn't be made into a movie. For one thing, time moves very rapidly and each time time moves forward we get a whole new cast of characters, with the exception of Hari Seldon who appears in videos after the first act in the book.

The plus is if the conversion from print to film is a success, there is another six books to convert, but we won't hold our breath. - GJ
