With the fourth installment of the Terminator franchise, Salvation, yet to hit theaters (May 22, 2009) you wouldn't think Sony and Warner Brothers would already be discussing plans for a fifth, let alone sixth movie, but you'd be wrong.
In fact these entertainment giants have already green lighted the fifth film and even signed Christian Bale (John Connor) for all three films.
There's just one really big problem with a new set of films, and that is a little show currently running on FOX called The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Rumor has it that Salvation picks up after the events of the third film, Rise Of The Machines, but this ends up conflicting with The Sarah Connor Chronicles which takes place prior to Rise Of The Machines. See everything done in the past ultimately changes the future, so this little TV show, is going to complicate matters more than some may realize.
Another problem that will arise, is that when you go to the movies to see a Terminator flick, you expect to see the original terminator himself Arnold Schwarzenegger. There's a smaller budget when producing a TV series so people understand that the big name actor will end up being a no show.
Something else to consider for Christian Bale is that he may have to give up the role of Batman due to the filming schedules. Though after that last performance, that would be okay too.
There is always the possibility that these new movies will be a huge success, but we wouldn't want to bet our money on that. -GJ
