Kingdom Hearts III (D23 Expo Japan Trailers)

New footage and theme song to the very long awaited for Kingdom Hearts III has been revealed at D23 Expo Japan.

Of course the game is still in production, so audio is in Japanese, but according to SquareEnix we will be seeing Kingdom Hearts III before the end of 2018.

Kingdom Hearts III theme song has been revealed to be "Don't Think Twice" by Hikaru Utada.

Time may finally be upon us to bust out the other Kingdom Hearts installments to refresh our memories of what all has happened.

More Video Games To Have Movie Adaptations

On July 9th, 2012 it was announced that Sony has begun a film adaptation for the hit Ubisoft game, Assassin's Creed. A mere 24 hours later Universal Pictures lets it be known that they will distribute the God of War movie that is now in the rewrite stage.

Excited? No? Yeah, neither are we. Video game movies have not really fared all that well as movies; Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, and Doom to just name a few.

Of course there is always hope.

For Assassin's Creed we have the luxury of already knowing that Michael Fassbender will be in a starring role; to what capacity is still unknown.

God of War has just hired the screenwriters behind four of the Saw films, and those weren't bad (for those that like creepy horror films).

The biggest problem video game adaptations face is that those that don't know anything about the game, need a movie to include some sort of origin story or a lot of back story information crammed into the first part of the movie. This causes the fans that have been playing these games and know everything there is to know about the characters, the locations, and accessories, to lose interest easily. So now when the movie hits the points the true fans are to be paying attention to, they've already lost interest.

So who do the studios really make video game adaptation movies for anyways? If they created movies that built onto the games instead of going back and screwing up the original content in a retelling of the story, many of these movies would be more successful and much more enjoyable to the game's fans.

Lets face it, the one movie we've all wanted to see was Halo. Do we expect it to be good, not really. Will we still go see it, you betcha.

No Stan Lee Cameo

Sadly we learned via Twitter last night (5/12/11) that creater of the X-Men, Stan Lee, will not be appearing in the upcoming Marvel movie X-Men First Class.

Up to this point Stan Lee has appeared in all Marvel movies featuring characters he created (Spider-Man, Iron Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Hulk).

So are you going to miss playing the "Where's Stan Lee?" game?

Star Wars 3-D...Really?!?

Does the Star Wars Saga really need to be converted to 3-D?

Well after several days and several heated arguments later we have come up with a list of cons and well, only one pro.

For the Pro, we see an opportunity to expose a new generation to Star Wars on a bigger scale; and we feel that everyone should see the entire saga at least once on the big screen.

As far as Cons go...

1. 3-D glasses are uncomfortable to those that already wear glasses.

2. Not every theater is equipped for 3-D, nor do people own 3-D televisions when they get ready to do the DVD and Blue-Ray releases.

3. With every new release something changes, and the statement "Change Is Good" is usually far from the truth when concerning the Star Wars Saga.

There may be only one pro and several cons, but let's face it, when it comes to Star Wars, we will find a reason to go and watch, even if the entire saga was redone with Japanese actors and we had to read subtitles. - GJ

Col. O'Neil vs. Col. O'Neil

In the blue corner we have Colonel Jonathan "Jack" O'Neil from the original Stargate Movie (Kurt Russell).


And in the red corner his opponent for the evening Colonel Jonathan "Jack" O'Neil from the SG-1 Series (Richard Dean Anderson).


Everyone does realize that the Col. O'Neil from the movie is suppose to be the exact same person in the SG-1 series, right? Yet have you noticed that their characteristics are somewhat different from one another.

The Jack O'Neil portrayed by Russell in the movie is a serious, take charge, do it by the books kinda guy. He needed what we'll call "dummy speak*" on rare occasions.

Jack O'Neil of SG-1 however spent most of his time attempting to find humor in every situation possible, and was constantly spoken too using "dummy speak."

There are still some similarities between the Jack O'Neils. One being that no matter what happens during the mission, your top priority is bringing all your team members home, even if that means sacrificing yourself. The second and the one we enjoy most, is that they both love to take cheap shots at Dr. Daniel Jackson.



As far as the actors portraying Col. O'Neil, we'd like to give a pat on the back to both casting directors for the fine decisions that they made. For each Col. O'Neil the appropriate actor was hired, and we have no complaints here in this department.

If we really had to pick a Col. O'Neil, well we just couldn't do it. We liked both characters and actors. Our guess is that if you get down to the nuts and bolts of each man, you would have a hard time picking just one too.


Keep in mind that you have to base one Col. O'Neil from a single movie, and the other from several television seasons.

*Dummy Speak - To have something explained using small, simple, everyday words.

Stan Lee has had involvement with every Marvel film that has hit the big screen. He's either been a writer, producer or both for every film. Mr. Lee has also had a cameo appearance in almost every film, with the exception of Elektra.

Some people find Marvel films to be like Where's Waldo books, just instead of Waldo we're looking for Stan Lee. With more Marvel films to come, we hope the game of finding Stan continues.

Sci-Fi Video Games + Big Screen = ?

For the most part video games that have been made into movies have done quite well. However it should be pointed out that though they have done well making money, hardly any of them have been worth the ticket price.

What makes a title a great video game is usually the player's interaction when helping to move the story along, but in a movie, we have no control over what takes place, everything is already 100% predetermined.

Sometimes a studio makes a game based movie well. Some examples of this are Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat 1, Super Mario Brothers, Resident Evil 1, and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.


Other times we wonder what the heck were they thinking. Movies that fall into this category include Mortal Kombat 2, Resident Evil 2 and 3, Hitman, and DOOM.

Feel free to disagree with the categories these movies were placed in, it's your right.

In the end, to the studios it doesn't matter if a movie is terrible or not, as long as it brings in money. So the trend of video games to the big screen is probably not going to see an end anytime soon, in fact there are several games either already in production, or being discussed as a possibility to be made.


Some of the bigger titles being discussed are Halo, Metal Gear Solid, Zelda, Max Payne, Prince of Persia, and Tekken. Hopefully one or more of these turn out to be worth the ticket.

Interesting Sci-Fi Movie Fact #0001

Sticking with the Firefly / Serenity theme, here is the first of many interesting Sci-Fi movie facts that will be posted from time to time.

In the movie Serenity, during the Reaver chase scene, the stunt coordinator wanted to make the shot of Jayne having a harpoon shot through his leg look as realistic as possible. Well as luck would have it, Jayne's stunt double actually had a prosthetic leg, therefore they went ahead and shot the harpoon through the leg.
