To The Comic Book Store #1

Every Wednesday is "Free Comic Book Day" at our local comic book store, Coliseum of Comics, where you can go and pick up four free comics (per person).

Granted most of these comics are from the early to mid-nineties, with early 2000s mixed in every once and a while, but hey free is free. We do also tend to drop some money from time to time on newer comics as well.

Even though this promotion has been going on for a while and we've taken advantage of it for over the last three months, we've decided to start sharing with you what we come away with on our weekly trip to Coliseum of Comics.

Scene Missing

Okay so some weeks ago Star Wars - The Force Unleashed II was released as both a graphic novel and a traditional novel.

The graphic novel was actually the side story of how Boba Fett became involved and the troubles he went through to track and capture Captain Juno Eclipse.

Unfortunately with a whole graphic novel created to capture this misadventure, a whole fight sequence between Fett and rogue hero Starkiller which occurred on the Salvation in the regular novel was completely left out.

This was one of the best parts of the regular novel because it was one of those few times we actually get to see Boba Fett fight a Jedi, even if the encounter was brief.

When you read the regular novel and then the graphic novel (which is the best order to read this series in) it leaves you kinda empty inside, because you went in with the thoughts that we were actually going to get to see this and don't.

When all is said and done though if you're a fan of Boba Fett then you would enjoy the graphic novel just for the look into his life, and as far as the regular novel goes, well it wasn't all that bad, and we are left with an ending that leaves us open for The Force Unleashed III. - GJ

Graphic Novels To Big Screen

So are you tired of seeing graphic novels on the big screen? We sure as heck are. Over the past few years studios have been pumping them out as fast as they could, and there just doesn't seem to be an end in sight.

Films like 300, Sin City, The Spirit, and soon to be released Watchmen are just a few that have been released. The problem here is all the movies are almost identical to one another. They're all filmed with a generic style, and in most cases are shot in a grey scale. There is nothing pleasant about watching these movies.

Yes we know the graphic novels were superb, in fact we enjoyed the novels for 300 and the Watchmen, but as movies they are not the same.


Because everyone has to be so P.C. in today's world the novels have been greatly edited for content. If they were to be filmed as they were wrote they would be given an NC17 rating, which would cause the studios producing them to lose money because there audience was limited.

Though in retrospect children should not be going to see R rated movies, especially those of 300 and Sin City. But that's a parental issue we will keep out of.

Even with numerous complaints being sent to the studios to stop making these movies it doesn't appear that there will be an end to this trend any time soon.

We however will be saving our money and avoiding anymore of these films. - GJ
