Captain America II (TV Movie, 1979)

Wow, this movie was bad, I mean really really bad. Okay, I'll be fair, in 1979, this might have been an awesome movie.

The outfit appears to be a nothing more than a blue muscle suit, a motorcycle helmet with these weird wings painted on and a blue tinted visor, and a shield that was less than par.

Do you see the shield; it's red, blue, and clear. Clear? Really?

Oh and the even better part, there's a scene where Captain America starts running down some stairs but then decides to do that cheesy sliding down the rail thing, yeah it was bad.

In 1979 this movie may have been awesome; in 2011, well not so much.

As a Star Wars fan though I have to admit I was a tad bit giddy when I realized that the Villain, Miguel, was played by none other than Christopher Lee (Count Dooku).

Has anyone seen and liked the TV movie Captain America II?

To The Comic Book Store #32

Going to the comic book store angry is not advised, I did that today and wanted to just reach out and smack someone the whole time there.

First there is this older gentleman who is there quite often, and good golly does he stink. I mean seriously shower before you go out dude.

Then there was the kid that kept pushing himself into the boxes near me; be it next to me, under me, or above me he just had to be invading my personal space.

The only conversation going on while there was about the Green Lantern. No I still haven't seen it and interestingly enough the store's comic specialist who loves comic book based movies said he'll be waiting for it to come out on DVD because it just didn't look worth the ticket price.

So in a nutshell that was the trip; and now on to the comic books themselves.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is the fourth installment of the franchise brought to us from Disney.

Without ruining the movie by giving away too much of the storyline, in On Stranger Tides Capt. Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is forced to lead the infamous Capt. Blackbeard (Ian McShane) in the race to the Fountain of Youth against both the Spanish and English.

Also returning for this installment is Geoffrey Rush (Capt. Barbossa) and Kevin McNally (Gibbs). Along the Ian McShane, we also welcome Penelope Cruz (Angelica Malon) and Sam Claflin (Phillip Swift).

This movie really can be seen as good or bad depending on how much of a fan you really are.

If you're not a die hard fan of the franchise and are just looking for a movie to go see then On Stranger Tides is a fantastic choice. There is plenty of action, a really good storyline, and well timed humor from characters we can easily relate with.

Die hard fans on the other hand may find themselves a tad disappointed with this film for the following reasons...
  • Though Depp portrays Capt. Sparrow flawlessly once again, at times it feels as if his jokes are simply forced they don't seem to run as smooth as in the previous films.
  • No Orlando Bloom or Keira Knightley. The lack of Bloom is one apparent reason it seems the jokes are forced, Bloom and Depp had a chemistry that was definitely missing.
  • There is plenty of action, but Pirates of the Caribbean always, always has a major ship engagement...just not this time.

If however fans can get past these few flaws and the one or two plot holes that are very very apparent, they may actually enjoy this film.

All in all, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is a film that everyone should give a chance and go see in theaters.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is a Jerry Bruckheimer film and directed by Rob Marshall.
